Life in the Church: A Study of the Pastoral Epistles

Summary: The Apostle Paul wrote 3 letters to his faithful learners and co-laborers Timothy and Titus.

We know those letters as I & II Timothy and Titus.

Paul was providing pastoral instruction to these young men so they would know how to shepherd and lead their respective congregations.

In doing so however, he also discussed how life in the church is supposed to function and what our roles as members of the church ought to be.

We have 3 studies in this series and we will present them in the order they occurred historically:

The Message of the Pastoral Epistles

The Lord established the church so that the body of Christ might live the Word before the world and be light in the darkness–just like Jesus.

Paul’s letters to Timothy and Titus, his faithful co-laborers for the gospel, were written primarily to equip these men for the task of leading and stabilizing the church, to keep their eyes focused on the ultimate prize of the shepherd: a godly congregation.

Key Verse

14 Although I hope to come to you soon, I am writing you these instructions so that,
15 if I am delayed, you will know how people ought to conduct themselves in God’s household, which is the church of the living God, the pillar and foundation of the truth.
