Outline and Lesson Goal

Principles and Applications

I. Sovereign Judgment (Amos 9:1-4)

  • Principle: God’s Judgment for Sin is Inescapable.
  • Application: How do you respond to the fact that God will pursue and judge sinners completely? How should you deal with those who are lost and do not know Christ?
  • Scripture Reference

and to give relief to you who are afflicted and to us as well when the Lord Jesus will be revealed from heaven with His mighty angels in flaming fire,
dealing out retribution to those who do not know God and to those who do not obey the gospel of our Lord Jesus.
These will pay the penalty of eternal destruction, away from the presence of the Lord and from the glory of His power,
2 Thessalonians 1:7-9 (NASB)

II. Sovereign Preservation (Amos 9:5-10)

  • Principle: God will Preserve for Himself a Remnant of Israel.
  • Application: Who do you know that needs to be part of the saved remnant of God’s people? Who in your circle of influence is refusing to repent?
  • Scripture Reference

26 “And it shall be that in the place where it was said to them, ‘you are not My people,’
There they shall be called sons of the living God.”
27 Isaiah cries out concerning Israel, “Though the number of the sons of Israel be like the sand of the sea, it is the remnant that will be saved;
28 for the Lord will execute His word on the earth, thoroughly and quickly.”
Romans 9:26-28 (NASB)

III. Sovereign Restoration (Amos 9:11-15)

  • Principle: God will Completely Restore His People Israel.
  • Application: How do you respond to the fact that God will completely restore the remnant of Israel? Could He also bring restoration to your current situation?
  • Scripture Reference

25 For I do not want you, brethren, to be uninformed of this mystery—so that you will not be wise in your own estimation—that a partial hardening has happened to Israel until the fullness of the Gentiles has come in;
26 and so all Israel will be saved; just as it is written, “The Deliverer will come from Zion,
He will remove ungodliness from Jacob.”
27 “This is My covenant with them, When I take away their sins.”
Romans 11:25-27 (NASB)
