Outline and Lesson Goal

Principles and Applications

I. False Worshippers (Malachi 3:13-3:15)

  • Principle: Worship and Service to the Lord must come from a Loving Heart.
  • Application: How have you shown your displeasure in serving the Lord? Have you examined your heart for your true motivation?
  • Scripture Reference

32 The scribe said to Him, “Right, Teacher; You have truly stated that He is One, and there is no one else besides Him;
33 and to love Him with all the heart and with all the understanding and with all the strength, and to love one’s neighbor as himself, is much more than all burnt offerings and sacrifices.”
34 When Jesus saw that he had answered intelligently, He said to him, “You are not far from the kingdom of God.” After that, no one would venture to ask Him any more questions.
Mark 12:32-34 (NASB)

II. Faithful Remnant (Malachi 3:16-18)

  • Principle: God will Preserve His Righteous People.
  • Application: Who do you know that is part of the faithful remnant? How are you encouraging one another?
  • Scripture Reference

Thus says the Lord of hosts, ‘Behold, I am going to save My people from the land of the east and from the land of the west;
and I will bring them back and they will live in the midst of Jerusalem; and they shall be My people, and I will be their God in truth and righteousness.
Zechariah 8:7-8 (NASB)

III. Final Warning (Malachi 4:1-6)

  • Principle: God Desires that Sinners Repent and be Saved.
  • Application: How does your life show your faithfulness to the Lord? How well are you leading your family? Do you need restoration today?
  • Scripture Reference

18 “Come now, and let us reason together,”Says the Lord,“Though your sins are as scarlet,They will be as white as snow;
Though they are red like crimson,They will be like wool.
19 “If you consent and obey,You will eat the best of the land;
20 “But if you refuse and rebel,You will be devoured by the sword.”Truly, the mouth of the Lord has spoken.
Isaiah 1:18-20 (NASB)
